Job Position: Director of Research
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill a vacancy in the post of Director of Research in the Parliamentary service of Ghana.
Job Summary:
- The Director of Research will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategy, policies/procedures and guidelines for the management of the operations of the department of research to ensure the provision of high-quality research services
Main Duties:
The Director of Research shall provide support to the Clerk and Management of the Service through the coordinating director (research, data management and library), by performing the following duties:
- Produce reliable and accurate data to support the information needs of Parliament and Parliamentary Service.
- Supervise the preparation of briefs/written reports/papers on Parliamentary and Constitutional developments and provide background information on topical and policy issues to MPs and committees
- Design and conduct appropriate research/surveys on national issues and disseminate reports thereon to meet the needs of MPs and Committees
- Plan and organize activities for the provision of research services of MPs, committee and the Parliamentary Service
- Lead a research team to respond to requests for information by MPs and Parliamentary committees
- Lead the process of developing and implementing the departments strategic plan to be factored into the strategic plan of the institution
- Perform any other duties assigned by the clerk to Parliament
Qualification Required & Experience:
- A good first degree in any social science or a relevant discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 10 years of relevant post qualification experience plus a masters degree preferably a master of Philosophy degree in the relevant subject with at least 3 years experience on a grade analogous to the post of a deputy director in a public service institution
OR
- A research masters degree preferably a master of philosophy degree in any social science or a relevant discipline with at least 6 years post qualification experience and at least 3 years on a grade analogous to the post of a deputy director in a public service institution
- Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets (Excel, SPSS, STATA etc)
Age Limit: Applicants of the post should not be above 50 years of age on the date of appointment into the Parliamentary Service.
