KnowBe4 Women of Colour in Cybersecurity Scholarship: Empowering South African Students

KnowBe4, Inc. is a leading provider of the world’s largest security awareness training and simulated phishing platform. Their innovative approach equips organizations to effectively combat the persistent challenge of social engineering by training employees to make informed security choices on a daily basis.
Eligibility:
To qualify, the recipient must be a woman of colour residing in South Africa. Candidates should be pursuing or planning to pursue a degree with a focus on cybersecurity, information assurance, or a related field. Eligible students include Matric or Grade 12 students, undergraduates, and graduate students; Ph.D. candidates are not eligible. Applicants should be enrolled in a South African college or university, whether attending on-campus or online, and studying full-time or part-time. Notably, employees of KnowBe4 and (ISC)² are excluded from this opportunity.
Scholarship Award:
One exceptional candidate will receive a 110,000 ZAR scholarship. This scholarship will be applied towards tuition, fees, essential course materials, and necessary electronics. Moreover, up to 31,900 ZAR of the award may be allocated for on-campus housing expenses. The scholarship can be disbursed in a lump sum or distributed over multiple semesters, including summer sessions.
Application Procedure:
To apply, candidates should follow these steps:
- Submit unofficial transcripts from your current or most recent educational institution. Official transcripts will be required upon being awarded the scholarship.
- Provide one letter of recommendation detailing the applicant’s relationship with the recommender, the applicant’s relevant skills or abilities, and any additional information deemed pertinent. While academic references are preferred, professional references addressing the outlined points are also acceptable.
- Present a concise resume/CV, not exceeding three pages. Do not include hyperlinks to publications.
- Answer essay questions in the application, each with a maximum length of 250 words:
- Share your personal and educational background, highlighting your achievements.
- Discuss how this scholarship will shape your cybersecurity career trajectory and what it would mean to you to receive it.
- Describe the inspiration behind your pursuit of a cybersecurity career, your qualifications for success in information security, and your professional aspirations.
- Outline your plans to give back to the industry and support other women in cybersecurity once you’ve established your career.
- Detail any contributions you’ve made to the cybersecurity field, such as volunteer work or articles, and the significance of your extracurricular activities.
